Frequently Asked Questions About Coaching
What is Coaching?
Here's how the International Coach Federation defines coaching:
Professional Coaching is an ongoing partnership that helps clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life. In each meeting, the client chooses the focus of conversation, while the coach listens and contributes observations and questions. This interaction creates clarity and moves the client into action. Coaching accelerates the clients' progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. Coaching concentrates on where clients are today and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be tomorrow.
When do I work with a coach?
When you know you're capable but you want some extra support right now. You're not quite sure what you need. You're clear about your goals but don't know how to get there. You know the path but just can't seem to get going.
How is coaching different from counseling or therapy?
Coaching focuses on action in the present to help you attain your desired future. We don't spend time trying to interpret the past. The coach assumes that you are whole and capable, not broken and needing to be fixed. You have the answers or the ability to find them.
