Searching through the library for a good reference photo, I came across a haunting image of an obscure actress from the silent movie era. After completing the portrait, I began searching for further information and photos, but found her quite elusive. Although she was considered one of the leading stage and screen actresses of her time, her disappearance from public view after 1924 meant that she has since faded from the memory of all but the most devoted fans of that period of cinema history. I have continued to collect articles and photographs about her, and to be inspired by her in my artwork.
